Enfield Training Services makes it personal
30 July 2010
Enfield Training Services (ETS) is part of Enfield Councils Education, Children’s Services and Leisure Department and is the Council in-house training provider for work -based learning for young people. ETS has received a Silver Youth Mark award. The young people who delivered the assessment found that ETS provided excellent advice and support to the young people they work with. The young assessors were particularly impressed with the one to one support the young people received and the way staff adapted their services to meet the individual needs of the learners at ETS.

Feedback from the young people who attend ETS was that staff and young people had very positive relationships. Young people commented that staff treated them like adults and with respect which made them feel comfortable, increased their confidence and motivated them to achieve and broaden their horizons.
Young people's participation was a strong point for ETS as the learners were given the opportunity to be Learner Representatives making suggestions and decisions about how the organisation runs. One of the Youth Mark Assessors said of this "The Learner Representatives and meetings is an ideal way to obtain the young people's opinions, this in turn is bound to make them happier within the organisation." Sam Elsom 17, Young Assessor.
The Assessors felt that more young people should be given the opportunity to make decisions and be Learner Representatives. They thought that students could alternate the Learner Representative role, giving even more students a say and opportunity to speak up and have their say in decision making at Enfield Training Services.
John Burke, Coordinator of ETS said of the Youth Mark assessment process:
"I am delighted that our work with young people on behalf of Enfield Council has been recognised by achieving this Youth Mark award. I think that the assessment process was a great way of getting out in the open what our young people really thought of the services that we offer to them. The young assessors were thorough and did not hold back on their findings. As a result of the process ETS will be able to build in changes to the way that we provide our services and further develop our strategies for involving and engaging with young people".
Any organisation working with young people can participate in a Youth Mark assessment. For further details of how your organisation could benefit from Youth Mark contact Jenny Walton on jenny.walton@y-gen.co.uk or 0208 347 2380.
