LJY-Netzer is First Jewish Youth Movement to Receive Youth Mark Award

14 July 2010
LJY Netzer, the youth movement for Liberal Judaism, has become the first ever Jewish youth movement to receive the groundbreaking quality award for young people’s services.LJY Netzer received the Silver Youth Mark award. The assessment team was made up of teenagers from across London's ethnic and religious spectrum.

LJY-Netzer received the highest score ever given by Youth Mark for the criterion of ‘Youth Participation,' in tribute to its unique democratic decision-making process.
The assessment found that LJY Netzer is led by the young people who use the service, and young people of all ages (8-24 years) are involved in decision making through annual events.
"LJY Netzer's strengths lie in family, togetherness and youth participation. The fact that participants know they can have a say is a real strong point and a significant number of young people go on to be leaders and stay involved for years because of this" Young assessor, aged 17
.
All interviews with staff and young people at LJY Netzer revealed they see LJY Netzer as a ‘family' and felt proud to be part of the organisation. This strong sense of family and community amongst LJY Netzer stood out to the young people carrying out the assessment as something really special and unique to LJY Netzer:
Ismail Jeilani, 17 young Muslim Assessor, said: "As a Muslim I was always taught in my belief that everyone is a brother and sister to each other, but it's sad to say it's not really practiced that much in the real world today. It's really great to see an organisation like LJY Netzer that actually puts this into practice; they really do see each other as family and go out of their way to help each other."

Robin Moss, Movement Worker for LJY-Netzer, said "it has been a privilege to have worked with Youth Mark over the course of the assessment. Our silver award is a recognition of the hard work all of our members put in to make us an inclusive, welcoming and exciting movement to be a part of. We are so proud to have received this award, and will be working with the feedback we have received to get the gold award next time!"
